Senior Executive Service ECQ Writing Workshop

Executive Federal Resume and ECQ Writing for GS 14 and Above Federal Employees preparing for Executive Careers or Career Development Leadership Programs/Announcements

Format and Duration:
A one-day, 7-hour workshop or half-day 3.5 hour workshop. Also taught through Web Conference/Seminar format in two 2-hour sessions. Expert and knowledgeable SES trainers lead, facilitate and train Federal executives in brainstorming, writing, sharing, listening and developing outstanding executives examples for the 5 ECQs. Executives also learn how to package their extensive leadership and management experience into a concise, impressive 3-4 page Federal Executive Resume.

Perhaps you'd like to see them step up and fill executive shoes within your agency. Well then, don't let them file their next executive applications without first taking this course! This lively, information-packed workshop will help your senior managers write outstanding and more competitive SES application packages. By the workshop's conclusion, employees will feel more confident about writing their Executive Core Qualifications (ECQ) and resumes. Participants will identify and practice writing about their Executive Core Competencies and Leadership Competencies, using the OPM's recommended model: Context, Challenge, Action and Results. A customized SES Writer's Guide and step-by-step workbook will facilitate their writing four new resume and ECQ sections in class. Employees will learn a new way of thinking and writing about senior management positions in government and their employee's role in current or future government leadership. The workshop also presents opportunities for establishing contacts. Instructional methods include in-class exercises focusing on accomplishments; interviewing, brainstorming, writing and sharing ECQ examples; analysis of announcements for target language; and incorporation of the Leadership Competencies.

  • Grasp how SES hiring process is managed by agencies and OPM.

  • Demonstrate in writing their decision-making, leadership, organization direction abilities.
  • Create impressive work experience descriptions.
  • Write outstanding profile statements-at the executive level.
  • Analyze Technical and Managerial Factors.
  • Create attention-getting cover letters for an SES application packages.
  • Prepare standout SOARS SES Resumes.
