WHAT DOES THE CONSULTATION INCLUDE?

This consultation service (two 45-minute sessions) is HIGHLY recommended for first-time federal job applicants. We are helping many first-time private industry jobseekers who are not sure of their job title, grade level, or how to begin to find the right job announcements for their background and qualifications. Our experts can ask questions, look at your current resume, and give recommendations for job titles where you can match the qualifications. This is HIGHLY recommended, so that you do not waste time applying for positions that will simply not work for your background. The federal resume, KSA, questionnaire and entire application system is dramatically different than private industry. It requires knowledge and understanding in order to apply correctly to get REFERRED TO A SUPERVISOR.

• Telephone or in-person (Baltimore, MD only) discussion of your professional history and federal job search goals.
• A strategy for an effective federal job search, considering what types of positions and agencies will be the best fit for your education, skills and experience.
• Recommendations for types of positions and grade level that you are qualified for, based on specific job announcements and Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standards.
• Insight about how federal human resources specialists will evaluate your resume and other application materials, including Keyword analysis, rating & ranking processes.
• Examination of federal job announcements with instruction on how to identify keywords that should be incorporated into your resume. Review of Duties, Qualifications, KSAs and Questionnaires together – an orientation on vacancy announcements.
• An analysis of your existing resume and other application materials with instruction on what they will need to be competitive for the job of your choice.
• A short tutorial on the Office of Personnel Management and USAJOBS web-site to understand the process and to utilize the tools available.
• OUTPUT: FEDERAL CAREER CONSULTATION REPORT outlining recommendations, strategy and proposal for future federal job search strategies, federal resume writing recommendations and possibilities for professional assistance in the job search.
• Another OUTPUT will be recommendations / homework, for you to improve your federal resume or KSAs. We will give you advice on more information to be added to your application!
