Using Key Words and Skills

Key Words are the special language of the position and industry. Your resume must "speak the language" of the recruiter and hiring manager.

Skills Must be Clearly Listed in Your Resume…

Skills are the qualifications written in the ads and position descriptions. Why make it hard for the recruiter to find your relevant skills and qualifications? Make their job easier: Show them you have the skills that match the recruitment advertisement.

Here’s an example of a classified ad with key words and skills (qualifications) listed very clearly. Compare this classified ad to the skills list in the resume excerpt below. The Key Words are in italics.

Classified Ad Example:

Job Description#1
Title:  Technical Marketing Engineer
Location:  Waterford, NY 12188, USA

Qualifications:
BS in Chemistry or Engineering; minimum 2 years experience in Technical/Commercial roles. Silicone product knowledge. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Superior facilitation and team buildingskills. Commercial sensitivity.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate all headquarters Technical Marketing support for the Fluid Specialties Industry. Identify and execute key programs for fluids and emulsions in chemical processing, textiles, and plastics additives industries. Provide technical support for the Fluid Specialties product line. Support growth initiatives of industry through application development.
