New Line of Training Materials for Career Professionals to be Published on Federal Work Search Techniques

0

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Baltimore, MD--

For the First Time Ever, Career Professionals Can Be Trained and Certified in Federal Job-Search Techniques

One day at a training session for career professionals in the Washington, D.C. area, Federal career strategist Kathryn Kraemer Troutman noticed something interesting. While the clientele of her Capital City students should have consisted mostly of people applying for Federal jobs, the career professionals in her class were only reporting numbers like 20-25%. Later, at the lunch break, one participant admitted that she had actually been discouraging clients from applying for Federal jobs because she didn't know how to help them.

"Right then and there, I realized that I needed to offer more support to career professionals," said Troutman. "Up to this point, the publication division of The Resume Place has primarily focused on jobseekers. I've decided to expand our writing and information on Federal Work Search techniques to include the professionals working in career development."

As the nation's largest employer, the Federal government has jobs that are open across the country and even overseas. Troutman regularly talks about the regional Federal positions that are available during interviews by radio stations across America. She's noticed that interest in these Federal positions has accelerated tremendously since the terrorist attack on the World Trade Towers in New York City on September 11th, 2001. The problem, however, is that people needing jobs are often baffled and discouraged by the complex application processes used by the Federal government. Well, this is a job market that Troutman knows inside and out. In fact, she has trained over 25,000 people about Federal application processes since 1995.

"The need for Federal job training is so great," said Troutman. "I understand the process and I know how to teach it. So now I'm sharing all that I know. Like what works in training and what doesn't. And what's approachable for both the jobseeker and the trainer."

Troutman has been working with Federal jobseekers for nearly three decades through her resume service, the Resume Place, now located in Baltimore. The Publishing Division of her company has produced eight Troutman books, including the classic Federal Resume Guidebook, the insightful Electronic Federal Resume Guidebook, and her newest and already popular Ten Steps to a Federal Job. And starting last November, Troutman is being featured in a new one-of-a-kind certification program on Federal work search techniques that she developed for the Maryland Institute of Employment Professionals. Now The Resume Place's latest step is offering the knowledge and materials that Troutman has developed to other career professionals.

Here's an overview of the new training materials offered by The Resume Place:

  • The Ten Steps to a Federal Job text , an accompanying student workbook (with handouts inside) called the Jobseeker's Guide, a workshop manual titled the Trainer's Guide, a CD-Rom with resume templates, and a Power Point presentation
  • The Federal Resume Guidebook text, a related CD-Rom with resumes and KSAs, and a Power Point presentation
  • The Electronic Federal Resume Guidebook text, a related CD-Rom with e-resumes, and a Power Point presentation.
  • Sample workshop announcements, course evaluations, name tags, certificates of training,

and more.(For prices and further details, please see the "Training Pages" at www.resume-place.com.)

The Resume Place training materials can be used in a variety of ways. Some trainers will prefer to utilize them while emphasizing the Ten Step approach for applying for Federal work. Others will want to incorporate them into more focused trainings, such as on the Federal paper resume, the Federal electronic resumes, or the KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities statement). The time frame for the training can range from an hour to several days.

"Trainers need good materials," Troutman pointed out. "However it would be difficult for career professionals to create them on Federal job search techniques because they don't know the process. I've simplified it down to ten doable, understandable steps."

One reason that Troutman created the materials and certification program is that the demand for training in Federal Job Search techniques is more than she can handle on her own. Career professionals wishing to learn more about this job market should consider taking Troutman's one-hour teleclass, "Introduction to Federal Resume Writing for Career Development Professionals."

"It's a tough market," she admits. "You have to know the process, the job titles, the salaries, and how to find the jobs. Also, the agencies are all different in how they hire people. But when you know how to educate your clients, they can succeed and land the jobs of their dreams."

To check for the dates of the upcoming teleclasses,as well as to obtain additional information on the training materials, visit the "Training" pages of www.resume-place.com or call Sarah Blazucki at 410/744-4324 at The Resume Place in Maryland.
