TEN STEPS BOOK HELPS LAND FEDERAL JOB
Date: June 25, 2008
Federal Jobseeker: Private Sector to Federal
Previous Job Title: Civilian Employee
New Job Title: Equal Opportunity Commission
I just wanted to thank Kathryn Troutman personally! I
purchased the book "Ten Steps to a Federal Job" in January of this year
2008. I filled out my first application after reading the
book in March 2008 was interviewed May 21, 2008 and offered a job with
the Federal Government on June 4, 2008!!!!!!!
I am so excited after 12 years of trying and going through the process
so incorrectly, I figured that out after reading the book. I
will be working for the Equal Opportunity Commission in Washington D.C.
Thank you so much Mrs. Troutman for this wonderful book! I
have told at least 12 of my friends about it, and have sung your
praises! So hopefully some of my friends will be able to join
me after years of dealing with the sometime volatile private sector.
Sincerely,
Salima

CURRENT FED APPLIES TO 3 POSITIONS, GETS REFERRED AND BEST QUALIFIED FOR ALL 3; LANDS EXPERT POSITION 2 GRADES HIGHER BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE

Previous Job Title: Internal Revenue Agent, GS-11
New Job Title: Recomputation Specialist, DOJ’s Tax Expert, GS-13
Dear Kathryn and Jackie,
I want to thank you and your team for doing such a great job for me.
Initially, I was hesitant to pay to have my resume done because I thought surely I could do it myself. My friends loaned me your book. However, I saw that even after they read your book, they had you do their resumes.
I was in such an awful position. I had a very bad manager who was making me pay for his lack of credentials and the situation was getting worse. Physically, I was getting sick. I knew I had to get away from a manager who managed by intimidation.
I was best qualifed for an earlier position and missed out on an interview because I did not know how to write the KSAs. I felt that I could not let that happen to me again. I was also in the midst of training and could not possibly do a good job - much less know how to do a good job.
The best thing that happened was spending the money to have my resume done professionally. Jackie Allen was assigned to me and she was wonderful! Not only was she an excellent writer, she was always positive and upbeat. She turned my resume into a masterpiece that highlighted all my skills and experience. In addition, when I needed additional help, Craig pitched in to get my resume online. He didn't say it wasn't his job. His only thought was getting it done so that the goal could be accomplished. You and your team advised me before the interview and held my hand as we awaited the results. But, it paid off. I applied for two positions and got "best qualified" for both. And, was hired for my first choice.
I've recommended your firm to all my friends. Speaking from personal experience, I would not recommend applying for a federal job without your firm's assistance. Otherwise, you could be cheating yourself out of a great job just because you didn't know how to highlight your skills and experiences. Your firm was worth every cent.
I'll be forever grateful to you and your team for getting me to my goal.
Roberta

Elizabeth,
I received an offer to be a Special Assistant where I will be a senior member of the Senate team and the only lawyer in the office. The same day I was offered this job, I received a letter about the SES position Elizabeth worked on with me in March. The 5 ECQ's were graded highly qualified and the one technical question was graded qualified.
The massive effort put into the ECQ's was worth it because I cut & pasted parts of the 5 ECQ's to answer the 10 "questions" (they were not called KSA's) and used the entire technical question for the application that led to this offer. During the first interview, the Deputy Director extensively discussed my technical question and found my experience similar to his.
So many thanks for all your advice.

APPLICANT SELECTED FOR FIRST-EVER TSA LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM—OUT OF 1400 APPLICANTS!!

Nancy,
I used the Resume Place to help me apply for inclusion in TSA’s Mid Level Leadership Development Program. Thanks to the Resume Place and my writer, Nancy Segal, I was able to put together a winning package that highlighted my best skills and accomplishments. I didn’t know how marketable my skills were until Nancy transformed my resume.
I did not expect to make the qualification list, but I did, was interviewed and was hired! In fact, over 1400 people applied for the program and I was one of only 500 that were selected nationwide. This has been a major boost to my career and has opened many doors to me. Resume Place is well worth the investment and it will continue to pay off throughout my career.
Thanks!

Got the job!! I hope I’ll never have to use your services again.. lol…. but I’ll be sure to recommend you in the future.
Nancy,
Good morning. Here is the update on my interview last night. I think it went as well as it could have. Apparently I am one of the two finalist and my competitor lives in Illinois. The first thing my interviewer did was an
1 hour desk side briefing about TSA, his unit's mission and the job description. We talked about what I bring to the table, where I want to be professionally in 5 years, how I am about speaking in front of people, my ability to work independently, and my family. He also brought down his field intel officer from Seattle whom was promoted within the TSA recently to help clarify any questions I may have about the position. The experience wasn't as intimating as I expected and I hope to get an answer from him next week. He praised me for taking the time out do such as great job on the KSAs. If everything works out, I should have an answer by the end of next week.
I'll give you an update next week.
Take care
Nancy,
Good morning. I want to let you know because of your efforts, I’m going for an interview today… My interviewer is flying out from D.C. Do you have any pointers for me, like what stupid questions not to ask? So far your record with me is one position applied and one interview out of it ….I’ll keep you posted on how it goes. High equivalent GS12 low 13 position with potential for advancement.
Wish me luck! I hope your record becomes one position applied and one position obtained.

I have good news. I was selected for the position of Management Analyst GS-12 with SSA. Start date is October 29, 2007. Thanks for all your help and advice. We did it!
Nancy, I'm truly appreciative of the work that you did on my resume and your advice. Had I not spoken to you I would have probably not submitted my application. I just thought it was such a short turn around time 1 week. I started to panic thinking about essay questions etc. but I'm glad that you had me take a second look on the requirements. Thank God I did not have to submit essay questions.
The interview went very well. I was a bit surprise that the process moved along that quick. I received a call on Tuesday Sept 5 at about 9 am. I spoke to the division director he wanted to know a little about me and my qualifications. He told me that he wanted to set up a formal interview with me but he wasn't sure if it would a telephone interview or a personal interview. I expressed to him my desire for a in person interview. As I left work that day I said to myself it will be another week or so before I hear from him. To my surprise he called me back at 5pm and said that he booked a flight and will in NC by noon the following day for a 1pm interview.
Obviously I did not have much time to prepare, however I had been working on a career portfolio which I quickly put together. I used my portfolio during the interview to illustrate some of the work that I had accomplished in the military. He was very impressed. When I left that interview I was very confident that I had nailed that job.
Thanks Again,
Yvette

Just wanted to let you know that for both SES positions that I have submitted a package, my application was rated “Highly Qualified” and were forwarded to the hiring authority. US COAST GUARD RECRUITER, E-8, STARTS FEDERAL CAREER AS VA CLAIMS ASSISTANT, GS-5
Date: August 30, 2007
Federal Jobseeker: Military to Federal
Previous Job Title: USCG Recruiter, E-8
New Job Title: VA Claims Assistant, GS-5
Hello Ms. Troutman,
As a career USCG Recruiter and Recruitment Manager in San Diego for 15 years, I was looking at government positions like Immigration and Mission support specialist etc. As I started navigating USAJOBS I came across VA Jobs and found careers that would also suit me. One in particular was a Veteran Service Representative. There was one opening but I missed the deadline. The following week a position as a Claims Assistant became available I applied for that one and two weeks later I received a call for an interview. I went through the interview and a month and a half later I was offered the job as a GS5.I was the 1st choice/pick from interview that my boss later told me who was also involved with the interview. In time I’m sure a position as a VSR will open so I look at it now as having my foot in the door. Don't get me wrong I do like my job as a CA but as always I look for future opportunities. Thanks for your help with my new career.

NAVY OPEN INVENTORY WORKS AFTER 100 TRIES!
Date: July 27, 2007
Federal Jobseeker: Military to Federal
New Job Title: Public Affairs Officer, GS-1035-12, US Navy
Kathryn,
I must have seriously applied for at least 20-30 jobs over a six month period before I landed this, my current job as Public Affairs Officer (GS-1035-12) for the Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center in Port Hueneme, CA. If you count jobs that I was marginally qualified for, or openings that I submitted resumes for by way of the one-click/apply online function, that total rises to 75-100. The challenge to be reinstated mounted with each week, and admittedly things looked pretty bleak. I was at my wits end, so I was shocked I discovered that I had been selected for this position.
Although I never directly applied for this gig, I did have the foresight to put my resume on the Dept. of the Navy's website. And I did the same for the Dept. of the Air Force and Army. I cast a fairly wide net, and I made sure that I kept a current resume on the USAJOBS website. I also set-up my job search agents to notify me of GS-1035-11/12/13 jobs as they became available. Since I left my previous federal job as a GS-2152-09, I'd focus on GS-11/12 jobs in proximity to my Bay Area home.
When NFESC accepted resumes for this opening, they drew my resume, reviewed it, and contacted me for a one hour phone interview. Less than 15 days later, I received a second phone call from NFESC, informing me that I had been officially selected as the new command PAO.
Despite the fact that I was coming from private industry and hadn't worked for the federal government in twenty years, I was selected over hundreds of applicants. A lucrative relocation bonus of 12K was negotiated, along with an official start date in mid-April, more than four months after my selection.
I immediately viewed this as a new beginning, a chance to pursue advancement opportunities and secure my retirement. Suddenly, my dream of retiring as a GS-15 was a step closer to reality.
I'm 368 miles from the Bay Area (I'm maintaining my home there and a second apartment in Oxnard, CA), and a compressed work schedule means that I have a 3 day weekend every other week, allowing me to frequently visit my fiancee.
I'm much happier now than I was at my previous job, and I've returned to the federal government's employ. Fortunately, I had years of prior experience, from 1982-1987, and that enabled me to keep CSRS as my retirement plan.
Yes, you can use my success story. Without your revisions to my resume, I doubt that I'm sitting here in Port Hueneme, 30 miles west of Malibu, 60 miles northwest of LA, and 40 miles south of Santa Barbara. Doesn't get much better than that!

AFTER 17 YEARS AS ACCOUNTING TECH, LANDS CAREER LADDER POSITION!
Date: July 23, 2007
Federal Jobseeker: Federal to Federal
Previous Job Title: Accounting Technician, GS-7
New Job Title: Contract Specialist, GS-11
Hi Kathryn,
I've been an Accounting 17 years too long. I've been too complacent over the years with DFAS San Diego, and not realizing that the office will close on me as a result of BRAC closure. I completed my undergrad degree several years and decided that I did not want to be stuck as an accounting Technician. And I did not want to retire or end my career as an Accounting Tech. That's why I decided to pursue the Contract Specialist which has more promotion potential.
Yes, you may use my story to add to your federal success story.
I need to mention that I've used a local professional resume writers before in San Diego several months before taking your resume seminar and did not get any good results from that local resume writer and additionally after paying $150.00 my resume never got any pulls or certs pulls from the
resume(USAJOBS,Navychart)database.
It was only after I've attended your resume seminar at DFAS San Diego that I substantially increased my skill bucket skills and KSA's skills and corrective usage of the narrative and position descriptive analysis to my advantage. I was more confident to submit a unified and more cleaned up version of my resume. I only submitted one application using the advance and techniques from your class. I received positive results from your resume seminar and received calls, interviews and finally getting the job.
Very Respectfully,
Joseph

New Job Title: Organizational Architect, GPO
First e-mail:
Hi Elizabeth. . .thought you might want to hear this! I was supposed to report for work (Planning and Development Specialist) this past Monday - the 23rd. This was confirmed by Valerie, head HR, on Friday 13, after she called to ask if the date could be pushed back because she couldn't get the paperwork processed. (Don't know if I had told you the long, involved story, but to sum up, job offer January 29, start date kept getting pushed back because of delays (not from me) to paperwork and the drug test kit was sent to a lab in NM that was out of business!!!). Anyway, Valerie asked me to push it back for paperwork (background check and drug test had all passed, so it wasn't anything on my end). Valerie told me the time and where to go would all be in the confirmation letter. Well, I heard nothing and received nothing! This past Monday, at 1:30 in the afternoon, Valerie called wondering why I wasn't at work? Then, before I could answer, she realized the letter had never been sent! OK, push it back to April 30 (she actually wondered if I could go to work that afternoon, but NOT). Got the letter yesterday (Wednesday).
OK, this afternoon I'm taking my roommate to pick up her car, stuck in a traffic jam and I get a call from Christine in GPO, HR. She was calling to offer me the job of Organizational Architect, at the high end of the pay band -$88,000 (almost double the other position) - and because all my paperwork, drug test and background check was done, if I wanted I could start on Monday!!! I was so GLAD I was in a traffic jam and not in moving traffic!!!! So Monday, I start work with the GPO as an Organizational Architect.
Is this going to make The Resume Place's Believe it or Not?!
Needless to say I am excited!!!!
Second e-mail:
Yes, Elizabeth did an incredible job and our persistence in finding the right job paid off - even thought Elizabeth was skeptical when I applied for the OA position two days after being offered the other position! :) Without her help, I wouldn't have made it! The GPO is certainly my favorite agency!! The GS 9 position was a Planning and Development Specialist in the Information Dissemination, Library Services & Content Management Office, Planning & Development Content Management! WHEW. . . that's a mouthful! The new position - Organizational Architect - is in the office of Human Capital. Attached is one of the four job postings - two had one more KSA, but were otherwise the same. I understand the OA position is physically located next to the first position. When I interviewed for the OA position - April 18 - I was told the timeline was the interviewer would make a recommendation to a senior manager, and if chosen in 3-5 weeks there would be a second interview. All of that was bypassed!?
Anyway, I am so excited! Thank you again for all of your help and encouragement!! Again, I can't sing Elizabeth's praises enough!

Hi Carla and Kathryn,
I've been wanting to contact both of you to let you know that I am really enjoying my new job. I feel so fortunate to get in or break the federal hiring system as I tried for over a year. Now that I am in, things are going very well and learning a great deal. It's been 8 months now and hard to believe. I've traveled to Connecticut and Kentucky last summer and planning to visit Alabama and Arkansas and MD this year for monitoring and compliance visits. I really enjoy where I work.
The benefits are very good (except for health benefits- much higher and less coverage but I'm on my wife's insurance which is better and hard to believe that) and get every other Friday off(as you see I am off today writing to you). They have a 5% match toward 401 k and doing well there. I really can't complain here. I do travel to DC and take the MARC train and DC metro so the travel is not bad but the feds pay 50% of my travel costs for the train. I am saving on gas and wear and tear on my car so I only travel 20 miles a day to and from BWI. My parking is free at the airport as the feds pay that too. It's a different routine of traveling but I'm not driving so I get to read the paper or nap on the train (smile)
Thanks again for your assistance on having an impact on my career and really enjoying it and it's the field that I am most familiar with just have to learn the federal process (getting better each day) and how the state process must comply with the federal regs etc.
I have recommended several of my friends and colleagues to your services and it's truly amazing. Keep up the great work of assisting people to get into the feds. I also hear with many people retiring now and few year from now, there are and will be more promotional opportunities as well as those entering for the first time like me. Thanks again for changing my life around with much better money, fringe benefits, and lastly my cholesterol went down 80 points due to moving around more with traveling and the stress level nearly dropped 100% from my previous job which is a huge factor! Hope to hear from both of you.

Second e-mail:
Hi Kathryn,
It's good to hear from you. There a few things here I meant to articulate in my earlier email and would appreciate this information be included to recognize that Carla did an outstanding job with my resume. She was so pleasant to work with and patient with me on the amount of information involved in the process of getting the resume in place. She also assisted me with the appropriate language needed for the Schedule A letter so it would stand out just like my resume.
Carla was a blessing in the sky! If opportunities are granted for me to pursue at higher grades, I will be calling Carla for sure.
I truly believe my resume stood out so well that I received a call from Human Resources within 3 weeks wanting my Schedule A letter ( Human Resources will ask for schedule A as instructed in the announcement). This was a clear sign that I was getting somewhere in this process because the Schedule A process is not a "competitive process" which means as long as my resume stood out, qualified, got the points needed to meet best qualified, all they had to do was call me in for an interview. My understanding of Schedule A is that I'm not mixed in with the individuals who are competing on the competitive status. The real issue here is that most federal agencies do not understand the usage and benefits of Schedule A and the understanding that people with disabilities want and can work only to be given an opportunity. (The agency I work for is a national program for people with disabilities so they use Schedule A process all the time)
I applied through both processes (competitive and the non competitive- Schedule A so my name would be in both places!
As you know : there are 2 applications available when applying to federal jobs:
Competitive status (anyone in the public can apply)
Non- competitive status (Schedule A/federal employees)
I would love to assist you with writing your book since the Schedule A process is so under utilized; misunderstood by many hiring officials, stigmatation about people with disabilities working, and the disabled population is the most underserved population that employers are not tapping onto and there are state and federal tax savings for employers when hiring qualified people with disabilities. MD's number one employer are the feds in MD and DC (135,000) people work for the feds and there are many people retiring in 5 years or so as well as well as the BRAC realignment of miltary bases coming to MD to bring another 10-20,000 thousand jobs by 2010-12.
I have said a lot here but perhaps we can get together on this special initiative! Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Dear Carla,
Thanks for all your help in helping me to preparing my application materials so that I could apply for a promotion opportunity. When I first contacted you, I had been working as a Program Analyst (ZA-343/III) for NOAA since 2005. In May of 2007, I was told that my position was being reclassified and opened to the public. In order to be considered for the new job, which would be a promotion for me, I would need to submit my application, along with any other U.S. citizens interested in the job. Talk about stress! You helped me to improve my paper federal resume and write 6 KSAs.
At the end of June, I was notified that I had been selected for the Job! I guess that was no real surprise. My application was very good and I want to thank you for all of your hard work to make it happen. Thank you again and it was very nice to have worked with you. It was a very stressful time for me and you took a lot of the stress off by completing my wonderful new federal resume and KSAs.

After 6 years, I was bored with writing computer programs all day and I needed a change. Jackie was able to match my skills with the Operations Research Analyst series. I expected a lateral offer but I was offered a promotion. As a matter of fact, I was hired without a face to face interview. This new job is also closer to home. My friends at my previous agency are still in awe of how I was able to get out of the IT specialist series and they are still there, bored and miserable. I highly recommend this service. It is an investment in where you spend 8 hours (or more) of your day. Let the professionals at The Resume' Place do what they do best, for you! :-)

What worked for me is the resume organization, skills, ability, experience and knowledge. Above all, the way I confidently presented myself in relation to what I had shown on my resume. Confidently I was able to demonstrate my ability. I cannot exactly express how easy it was but all was due to your organizational explanation and step by step development of my resume.
By the way, at the same time of my current job offer, I was also offered a Crime Lab Technician I job with Baltimore Police.
I look forward to updating my resume soon. For some related Jobs at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Currently I'm attending many EPA air pollution seminars/workshops/training therefore obtaining a lot of certificates. Soon I will update my resume and aim higher.

I'm sure that if I had paid for your interview preparation service when my
resume was updated, I would have been offered a job after the first or
second interview. I would stress the importance of this to your future
clients who are transitioning from a military to civilian career. A great
resume by itself won't get you all the way to the finish line, you have to
have the right answers to the different kinds of questions they ask you.
I will heartily recommend your service in the future to anyone I know of who
plans to leave the military for a federal career.
Thank you very much!

POLITICAL CONSULTANT TO WRITER/EDITOR

Federal Jobseeker: Private Consultant to Federal
Previous Job Title: Private Political Consultant/Teacher
New Job Title: Writer/Editor, GS-9
Hi Elizabeth,
I just wanted to thank you for helping with my federal resume inasmuch as I was offered a job I am taking with the National Archives on June 11th. They couldn't hire me above GS-9 (which is about $50,000 in D.C. with locality pay) but they also talked about how I would jump to an 11 next year and a 12 the year after. And I could be making pretty good money by going higher than a 12 later on - if I want to go into management - since I have management experience and my master's degree is in public administration.
The best part for me, though, is that the job title is specifically Writer/Editor, so I'm really happy to be doing something that I like. And because of my political experience, they want to start me off in the part of the office that archives presidential speeches so that is really cool. So, I have to say that your service really made all the difference.
I always felt as if I had the right credentials, but could never seem to breakthrough. But there is definitely a specific methodology needed to do so and you showed the way. You were also a pleasure to work with and have a wonderful personality.
With kindest personal regards,
Chris

PRIVATE INDUSTRY WAREHOUSE MANAGER LANDS DLA ENERGY MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST POSITION
Date: April 5, 2007
Federal Jobseeker: Private Industry to Federal
Previous Job Title: Warehouse Supervisor
New Job Title: Energy Management Specialist, GS-9
Hi Kathryn,
I have meant to send you this email for a while, in reference to the service that I had received from Ms. Diane Burns.
In the beginning of October 2006, I contacted The Resume Place in reference to beginning a new career. After my initial conversation with you, I was extremely excited about the possible opportunities. Shortly after, I was assigned to a specialist. Her name was Diane Burns.
I sing your organizations praises anytime I get a chance and Diane is the main reason for this attitude. During our first conversation, she wanted to know my goals as well as specifics dealing with my past work experiences.
Diane made no promises, with the exception of one …… She Would Do Her Best For Me!
She immediately began the process of breaking down my past work experiences and how they would correlate with possible opportunities, with the Federal Government. Understand during this time, I was working with an organization in the private sector, which did not allow me to be flexible. She was very patient, but persistent.
To make a long story short, upon completing the analysis process, she made a few recommendations. These recommendations included Agencies as well as the positions that would be more compatible with my work experiences. The first position that I placed my application, was for an Energy Management Specialist with the Defense Logistics Agency. The position closed on October 27, 2006. A few weeks later I received a letter from the Office Of Personnel Management - Ohio, basically signifying that I qualified for a certain grade/position level. On November 27th, I was contacted by Defense Energy Support Center, an organization within Defense Logistics Agency, to be scheduled for an interview. December 05, 2006 I interviewed for the position and on the 20th of February 2007, I began my career with Federal Government as an Energy Management Specialist - Grade 09, Level 01. The posting series was for an 1101 - Grade GS-09 through GS-12. Based upon conversations with my current supervisor, there is a huge possibility
that I should be a GS-11, sometime next year.
I wanted to thank you and most of all thank Diane Burns for her expertise and assistance with coaching me, to achieve my objective.
YOUR TEAM IS AWESOME!!
Thank You.

GOT A GS-14 JOB WITH RESUMIX FROM EUROPE TO U.S.
Date: March 30, 2007
Federal Jobseeker: Federal promotion from overseas via CPOL
Previous Job Title: Project Manager, GS-13

Hi Kathryn.
Just wanted to let you know I finally got a job offer. Of course it was exactly what I wanted and I accepted. :-) It's a merit promotion to GS-14 and working with LMP in NJ.
They actually chose me two times based on my resume and then I had a great interview (1 1/2hrs) which I prepared for using the interview stuff you provided as well. I start on the 29th of April. :-)
I did it through Resumix. I applied for at least 3 jobs a day until I got this interview in January and still have 3 pages of open jobs out there. It took April 2006 until Mar 2007. This position was one I applied for in Oct 2006, didn't get interviewed until January 2007 and asked them to use PPP to pick me up since they weren't paying PCS costs. Yes I'm leaving Europe after being here since 2000. You are more than welcome to add it to your success stories. Hopefully it will help someone. It was a long search and frustrating but it paid off in the end! It was definitely worth the year of job hunting. Thanks for all your help and support.
This was probably one of the most frustrating yet rewarding job searches that I've ever done. The resume truly was the key!

Federal Jobseeker: Private industry to Federal
Previous Job Title: Office manager of a dental practice
New Job Title: Administrative Specialist, Federal Trade Commission, Office of the Executive Director, GS-301-07
I did accept that position with the Federal Trade Commission. I interviewed with four directors and one assistant director and every one of them complimented me on my resume and KSA's. I tell everybody what a great job you did! Your name came up today because a friend and I were driving by the new FBI building here in Manassas, and I made a comment about how nice it would be to work there (so close to home). I work in DC now. I really love my job, and the commute is not that bad. Thanks again!

Federal Jobseeker: Government contractor to Federal
Previous Job Title: Government contractor in security
Hi Nancy,
Yes, I have heard from the Transportation Security Administration last week. They notify me that I qualified for a screener position. I am schedule to take their 2 and a half hours written test on February 27. The next step, if I pass the test, is the airport testing portion. Anyway, their testing process will probably take several months to complete and right now they only have part-time position available.
Thanks for keeping in touch. I will let you know if I hear anything.

GOT HIRED – Arizona Air National Guard
Date: January 2007
Federal Jobseeker: U.S. Military to Air National Guard Position
Previous Job Title: Supervisory Mission Intelligence Coordinator, GS-0132-13
New Job Title: Staff Officer, IGA Directorate, Band IV
Dear Kathryn Troutman,
Without Carla Waskiewicz’s guidance, help and advice I don’t think I would have been successful in getting the job I applied for in the beginning of December. I just interviewed this past week. It was tough and I don’t think I did exceptionally well on the interview.
When my new boss called to tell me I got the job he specifically mentioned that my package was the most thorough and detailed that was submitted. That’s what landed me the position. Carla was my guiding light, without her direction, experience and expert writing skills, I could not have put it all together in the time available to me. I was concerned about the expenditure, but Carla figured out how to stretch my dollars by giving me the homework assignments and deadlines, she kept me on track and helped me get the package to where it needed to be. She really impressed me with her ability to turn our “intelligence” language into English. I would recommend her to my Mother if my Mother needed a resume. Thank You, for your outstanding services.

Pat,
I don't think I could have come close to qualifying without your help and knowledge, words cannot express the gratitude I have for all the effort you put into my resume. All my experience is work related and it is hard today to compete against college degrees even if you are qualified. Again I thank you!

ACTING DIRECTOR LANDS SES POSITION AFTER 10+ YEARS IN THE JOB
Date: September 2006
Federal Jobseeker: Federal to Federal
Previous Job Title: Acting Director, GS-15
New Job Title: Director, SES
To SES Candidates,
I had the fortunate opportunity to apply for an SES position last year, mid-summer. While I was confident that I could submit a well-written, qualifying application I wasn't confident enough to take the chance that I might miss something. I chose Resume-Place because I had heard some very positive comments about their process and style. My biggest concern was the limited time I had to submit the application.
Kathryn, my coach, and Emily Troutman, my Developmental Writer/Editor were wonderful. I already had a draft of my ECQs written so Kathryn asked me to send them along to her. This draft gave her an idea of who I was, what the agency was about (I was applying for a position within my agency) and what I had accomplished.
Again, because of my limited time, we did a lot of work through email. She, and Emily staff coached me through each qualification item. What I thought was a "good" application soon began to develop into so much more. Having the experience and accomplishments to succeed into the SES rank is one thing - documenting it appropriately is quite another. Emily guided me through the process, helping me to understand what each ECQ means so that I could focus on mission accomplishments and document my application accordingly.
Bottom line - I was successful in my pursuit. I was selected for the SES position in September 2006. I am currently serving on my first ERB, reviewing applications for another SES positon within my agency. What I learned from Kathryn and her daughter Emily, is now helping me as I work through these applications.
I am most appreciative of Kathryn, Emily and Resume Place. Kathryn and Emily’s style of coaching, editing, and just as important, her encouragement, throughout the process made this nerve-wracking experience much more tolerable.
Thank You.
Charlie

GOT HIRED – FBI, GS 9
Date: September 7, 2006
Federal Jobseeker: Federal employee got promoted
Previous Job Title: HR Office Automation, GS-7
New Job Title: Administrative Specialist (Human Resources), GS 9, FBI
Well, it will be 4 weeks tomorrow that the job I applied for closed. Just thought I would give you an update. I was told today that I did get the position at the GS-09 level. Would you believe that they had be go back to a former supervisor (10 years ago) and have her write me a letter stating that I did in fact do the duties that I stated in the resume that I performed? Anyway, at least I still have maintained contact with that person and she wrote a letter for me. Otherwise, I'm not so sure that I would have even qualified. And you wondered why I was worried...... Anyway, I thought you would be glad to hear that you hard work in writing paid off nicely. Thanks again!!!!
(CONSULTANT NOTES: She applied for all three and got the job at the 9. This application had over 30 vacancy questions for each pay grade (almost all different) with approximately 10 essay questions for each. It was the most arduous application I’ve ever seen.)

Well, I have a "meet and greet" with the FBI this Tuesday, 8/15. It's for the same job I interviewed for over a year ago! It's a gs-12 in Winchester, VA (Records Conversion Specialist) which is the same town I live in. It would be great because it would only be about a 10 minute commute! Much better than 1 hour plus each way!
Thanks and have a great day!
