Nancy has nearly 30 years of Human Resources experience with the Federal government. Her career includes a broad array of Federal Human Resources responsibilities, including serving as Personnel Officer, Deputy Regional Administrator, and Special Assistant. Nancy is an expert at assessing qualifications for federal jobs and has an excellent understanding of position classification.
Nancy has worked for the Resume Place for the past three years where she uses her expertise serving as a Federal Career Coach and Resume Writer / Editor to coach applicants on their federal job searches, teach them how to interpret the lingo in Federal vacancy announcements, and how to respond to KSAs. From entry level through Senior Executive Service, Nancy works closely with job seekers to prepare detailed, thorough, fact filled, and well written job applications.
Nancy is co-author of the very popular Writing Your NSPS Self-Assessment book. Her track record of getting her clients referred is outstanding. She works extensively with current Department of Defense and other current federal employees, as well as with contractors, members of the military, recent college graduates and others seeking entrance into the federal civil service. Nancy’s clients frequently comment on how her knowledge of federal HR and her ability to prepare strong resumes have helped them successfully navigate the system.
Nancy serves as an instructor and facilitator for government agencies and companies, conducting training on various human resources, EEO, management and leadership topics including NSPS basics, developing effective job objectives, basic leadership skills, coaching, resume writing, EEO, FLSA, and basic federal HR for supervisors.
Previously, Nancy served as Regional Deputy Director and Advisor (Human Resources) for a financial regulatory agency where she managed all human resources, training and administrative programs for a seven state region. Nancy created effective outplacement programs to assist employees who were impacted by reductions in force. She created the Agency’s first on-line recruitment materials, conducted an analysis of human resources activities, and helped prepare the Agency’s Succession Plan.
Nancy is the recipient of numerous honors and awards. She is the author of numerous articles and booklets for in-house publication. Her most recent article, It’s Not Just about the Paper – Interviewing for a Federal Job, appeared in the Winter 2008 issue of the Career Planning and Adult Development Journal. Nancy is Myers Briggs qualified, holds a Master’s degree in Human and Labor Relations from Loyola University of Chicago and a master’s degree in Public Administration from American University in Washington, D.C. Her undergraduate degree is in history from Goucher College, Towson, MD.
