Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Required for the TSA PositionsBy Kathryn Troutman
Jobs in homeland security require important knowledge, skills, and abilities. The KSAs listed in the job announcements could match those offered by many people with experience in law enforcement, aviation security, asset/military force protection, and/or corporate security. Many military personnel will have the qualifications upon retirement or beginning a new career as a civilian. Candidates for TSA and homeland security positions could currently be in law enforcement, program management, or corporate security operations.
Here's an example of the KSAs:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) needed for
the Assistant Federal Security Director for Screening
- Knowledge of one or more of the following areas: law enforcement, aviation security, professional asset/military force protection, or corporate security.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals within and external to the agency.
- Skill in motivating and inspiring others and adapting own leadership style to a variety of situations.
- Ability to express ideas and facts in a clear and understandable manner, tailoring communication to the intended audience.
- Ability to manage a diverse workforce and lead others, including planning and assigning work, improving and controlling performance, selecting employees, and promoting EEO, human relations, and employee participation.
