Federal Resume Online Builder FAQ

Does the Federal Resume Builder comply with OPM Policy?

Yes. We have incorporated all of the information required on federal vacancy announcements into the federal resume template. We will make sure you have all of the compliance details required by the Office of Personnel Management.

How Can I use the same Resume Builder for either the Federal or Resumix® formats?

Yes, you can use the same fields for writing both resume formats. Our editors will edit and format your information into the correct format. We will make sure you have key words and accomplishments. If you don’t, we’ll give you a reminder that the resume needs more work before submitting!

If an editor reviews my draft, will it be ready to send to my job announcement?

Maybe. It depends on the information you put into the Resume Builder. It’s possible that you will be preparing a "first draft." You might need to have us edit and format the draft, then continue to work on it to improve your content. Good writing requires more than one draft. Especially something as important as either a federal or Resumix® resume. Your career depends on this document.

How does the Resume Builder work?

You fill in the fields and the copy will be sent to both you and to a Resume Place editor. If you would like our editors to format and edit your draft, we improve the content through heavy editing, formatting and review for the correct federal format. If you have selected to do your own editing, you can do that as well. You will receive a copy of your builder information by email.

How soon can I start using the Resume Builder?

Fill out the order form for either the Resume or KSA Builder and you will receive a return email with the links to the Builders. You can print out the instructions and the sample immediately, then you can begin writing.

Do I have to write my resume on-line, or can I open the Resume Builder, fill it out, then get back on-line and send it?

You can open it up, work on it off-line, and then return on-line to send it to yourself and to the Editors. We will know if you’ve ordered editing. When we get your draft, we’ll work on the editing and formatting. Another way that people use the Resume Builder is to print out the Resume Builder forms, follow the fields, and write the content off-line. Then copy and paste it into the resume builder. Having the form fields to complete is a big help in getting the resume done!

How long does it take to get my unedited content back by email? How long will it take to get my edited file back?

You will receive a copy of your unedited draft immediately. When we receive it, we will edit and format it within two days. We will send these files in your choice of word processing software: Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect.

Where is my resume content stored?

Your resume copy will come to you as an email. You will receive it and so will Resume Place. If you did not want editing, we will delete your file. If you want editing and formatting, we will improve the resume for you

If I order the Builder only, can I come back and get the editing service?

Yes. If you decide to use the editing service later, simply send us an email and we’ll find your Resume Builder information and start editing. We’ll subtract the base Builder price from the Builder + editing fee and start working.

How can I get started?

Go to the Order Form to order your Resume and/or KSA Builder.

If I select Builder + Editing, will the Editor adjust my content on the resume?

The Resume Place Editors will edit your resume for grammar and format. We will ensure consistency of verbs; edit the passive voice; highlight accomplishments; improve writing style, proofreading and format. We will make sure it is correct for your announcement or HR agency! That’s an important feature!

Please note: The editors will not add new content which is not provided. You must provide the words, and we will improve them. We will be editing and formatting. If you would like full-service writing (where we will interview you and write new content), we will provide that for you at a separate cost. If you want an estimate for full-service writing, write to us at resume@resume-place.com.

How does this Resume Builder compare to the Resume Builder on www.usjobs.opm.gov?

The Resume Builder on USAJOBS is a good resume builder. But the content will be stored on a database at USAJOBS in html. You can go back to access the resume and edit it — in html. You cannot have it on your computer in Word or Word Perfect. Our Resume Builder does not put your content into a database. It becomes an email. Then we take the email and convert it to a Word document, format and edit it. The document will become your resume on your computer in your own selected format — not the one dictated by USAJOBS. All USAJOBS Resume Builder resumes look alike. We like an individual distinctive look for our resumes. The format on the USAJOBS Resume Builder is a Resume Place designed format — it’s just one format. If you work with our editors, you will get a distinctively-designed federal resume and your Resume® version will be correct.

How is this Resume Builder different than the one on the DOD websites — Navy, Air Force and Army?

Those Resume Builders are excellent also, but the content goes into a specific database. It will not be available to you in Word so that you can easily edit or send it to various places. Our Resume Builder will help you create your own resume so that you can then copy and paste this content into a DOD Resume Builder for submission into all of the DOD databases. The Navy/Marines have 8 databases and 8 regions; Army has 10 databases and 10 regions; Air Force has one database for the entire Air Force.

Our Resume Builder is for writing, copy development, formatting, editing and saving in Word. Then you can do what you want with your resume. Even send it to a contractor or private industry organization with minor changes.

What’s the difference between using your Resume Builder and Editing Service and your Full-Service Writing program?

The Builder + Editing service for either Federal or Resumix® Resume is $300. We charge $125 to $150 per hour for writing and editing in our Full Services writing program. An average full-service federal or Resumix® resume is 6 to 7 hours. When using the Resume Builder, you will save some cost because you are doing some of the development of content and organization. We will still edit and review what you have drafted. We will tell you what needs more work and information. The Resume Builder plus editing is the best possible way to get instructions, samples, fields to fill in, plus an editor to edit your content, review for correct federal format and compliance, and make it more professional.
